Safe leakage current measurement

Safe leakage current measurement

Insulation faults can result in leakage currents which can endanger operators. During leakage current measurement it is ensured that the currents both during normal operation and in the event of errors are within the permissible range.

Our testers on one- or multi-phase test units make standard-compliant measurement possible at electrical devices. Like our resistance measuring device, our leakage current measuring devices provide precise results.

The leakage current testers, in combination with the Elution software, offer a wide range of measurement and switching options to analyze and assess all possible sources of error. Warm-up phases of the test specimens can also be taken into account.

Comprehensive logging via the Elution software allows for complete documentation of all target and actual values, even at a later point in time. In addition, a real-time good/fault statistics feature enables targeted fault analysis, providing valuable insights for continuous quality improvement.

What leakage current is and why you have to measure it?

Leakage current flows in an unwanted current path although the operating conditions are being observed. It can be caused by the coupling of Y-capacitors, for example. These are used for suppressing interferences. If there is a fault due to device insulation being damaged, the leakage current can cause dangerous contact voltages. Electric motors can also produce leakage currents due to their high internal capacitance. If leakage currents flow due to a fault, electric shocks can result and trip residual current circuit breakers.

Our leakage current testers support your troubleshooting efforts

Our testers are sturdy and can perform reliably for many years. Thus you benefit from a long measuring accuracy. All our devices are standard-depending in their testing methods and can be adapted individually by corresponding extension modules. Exact measurements are thus not a problem and the limit values can be determined.

How the measuring procedure works?

For measurement, the PE conductor of the device to be tested is disconnected. Then the measuring device is connected in between. The device is put into operation and the leakage current tester indicates the leakage current value. Then the PE conductor is connected again. Leakage current measurement is used in all kinds of areas, for example:

- Development
- IT
- Service
- Quality Assurance
- Project Planning
- Workshop
